Pediatric Amblyopia

Amblyopia (Lazy Eyes) occurs when mostly one eye is used comparatively more than the other from birth upto 6-7 years of age, which leads the brain to prefer the better eye. In rare chances, amblyopia may affect both eyes.

Children with amblyopia experience reduced eyesight typically in one eye, even when best corrected with glasses or contacts. if left untreated, amblyopia can lead to squint and affect a child’s self-image, sports, friendships, work, school and may also lead towards depression.

 

Some common Symptoms include:

Impaired Depth Perception, Tripping and / or Accident-Prone, Slower Reading Speed and Comprehension, Squinting of Eyes, Trouble with Micro eye Movement, Poor eye-hand Coordination

Some common causes of amblyopia eye are:

Congenital cataract. Which needs to be corrected with expedient surgery

Squint. Since the eyes are not in cooperation with each other

Uncorrected Refractive errors. The blurred image caused because of not wearing corrective glasses at an early age can lead to Amblyopia.
